Sixteen remarkable artists from the worlds of music and contemporary art have transformed a series of Carparelli guitars into unique works of art. Iggy Pop, Michael Stipe, Gus van Sant, Shepard Fairey and Sam Taylor-Johnson (née Wood) represent just some of the globally recognized creative talent involved. The guitars will be auctioned on November 9 at 7pm, at Bonhams New York at the preview of the Post-War & Contemporary Art Auction, with all proceeds to War Child.
Matthew Bellamy, Dave Stewart, Slater Bradley, Sterling Ruby, Pearl Thompson, Robby Krieger, Zevs, AIKO, Ginger Gilmour, Steve McNiven and Michael Adamson complete a stellar line-up. To register to bid and to view the collection online visit Bonhams website here.
“We are humbled by the support of these remarkable artists and are dazzled by the creativity they have brought to this project,” said War Child’s Samantha Nutt. “Art has always held up a mirror to humanity’s fatal fascination with war. This connection between creativity and activism is why War Child has enjoyed such remarkable support from the artistic community. This guitar collection is the latest outstanding example.”
Michael Stipe added, “No person, and certainly no child, should have to endure what many of these children have lived through, and in some cases, still live in. I am honored to be able to make a small contribution towards helping them.”
War Child is very grateful to Mike Carparelli for the donation of the guitars, as well as to Bonhams for their invaluable assistance in making this event possible.
